Why? Well, several reasons. For one thing, it is a waste of water and resources. On a typical day I don't get dirty enough to require daily washing. Second, it is not great for my hair. It strips our natural oils and makes it dry, frizzy and if it is colored, reduces its longevity. And I am lazy! Any additional time I can have to sleep in the morning, I will take (as long as I still look good!)!
So how do I avoid it? There are a couple of tricks I use that work really well.
• In the evening, I brush it thoroughly using a boar hair brush like Mason Pearson.
• I use a good dose of dry shampoo. There are nice brands out there, but of course I use Olio Caldo's because I want to be sure of exactly what is in it and where it came from. Plus I can customize it for my exact hair condition. People are nervous about using dry shampoo, so I have made a YouTube video showing good technique.
• I pile all of my hair up onto the top of my head with a velvet scrunchie (think Pebbles from the Flinstone's). I know it sounds weird, but it makes all the difference. It gives you root volume and keeps your blowout straight or your curls curlier. All of my friends I have given this tip to swear by it!
Follow this routine and you can go shampoo free for two, three, maybe even four days depending on your hair type and level of daily activity. Go gorgeous!
