What a great title! Sounds so sexy...not! However, it is a real problem and several of our clients have asked us for advice, so I thought it might be good to share that information with everyone. And we know it isn't just women who face this problem - Men this is for you too!
The most important factor is exfoliating, which helps to desensitize the area and keep hair follicles clear and open.
1. Exfoliate two or three times in the week before your scheduled wax or before shaving (do nothing in the 24 hours before, which could cause irritation and bigger problems). Use a product like Body Scrub for the job. If it is the first time you have ever waxed, you may want to shave a few times first.
2. After the deed is done, do not wear any type of elastic (underwear, bathing suit), or tight clothing (skinny jeans), against the affected area to avoid irritation - for at least 24 hours. It is a really bad idea to get a wax or shave the day you are going to a party or the beach!
3. Afterwards, use a product like Body Oil to soothe the skin and keep it soft. (I also use Body Oil as a shaving cream on my legs. As long as the hair isn't too long, it works great and leaves my skin incredibly smooth and shiny, i.e. not scaly and dry like when I use regular creams).
4. Maintain your smooth skin and clear follicles by exfoliating twice a week from here on out. It is a great idea to exfoliate your whole body twice a week to keep your skin glowing and problem free!
These steps should really help eliminate problems over time and keep your skin looking as healthy and luscious as possible. I really struggled with ingrown hairs for years, and following this advice I have been able to get rid of those issues, and the dark spots they created. I am no longer embarrassed to wear a bathing suit!
